HIV-1 matrix protein (MA)

Myr
FUNCTION
Structural protein that targets Gag polyprotein and the viral RNA to the plasma membrane lipid raft-rich domains (or to multivesicular bodies in some cell types) during assembly of immature particles . Incorporates the envelope proteins (Env) into budding virions . Might be involved in the nuclear import of the pre-integration complex .
INTERACTIONS
Interacts with the plasma through the phosphatidyl-inositol-4,5-bisphosphate binding domain and the myristoyl moiety . Interaction with Calmodulin (CaM) induces a conformational change that triggers MA myristate exposure . As part of Gag polyprotein, interacts with Env gp41 C-terminus and with host AP-2 and AP-3 . Interacts with RNA .
