Pegivirus is a genus of ssRNA+ viruses in the Flaviviridae family that infect primates. Human pegivirus (HPgV-1), formerly known as GB virus C (GBV-C) or hepatitis G virus (HGV), is asymptomatic. It is transmitted through percutaneous injuries (PIs), contaminated blood and/or blood products, sexual contact, and vertical mother-to-child transmission. It is prevalent in the general population, especially in high-risk groups.
