Tupanvirus (taxid:2094720)

VIRION

image

The head-tail virion measures about 1.2 micrometres. The head consists of an icosahedral capsid with a diameter of 400 nm, with a symmetry between T=972 and T=1141 or T=1200 (H=19+/-1, K=19+/-1). 125 nm long, densely packed fibres protruding from the capsid surface (750 nm total length). The capsid contains the inner core, which is surrounded by an inner lipid layer. A fivefold axis shows a star-shaped structure. The cylindrical tail is ~ 550 nm long and has a diameter of ~ 450 nm (including fibrils).
