Riboviria
Members of the realm Riboviria share the defining feature of encoding an RNA-dependent polymerase, essential for replication of their RNA genomes. The group includes both RNA viruses and those that replicate via reverse transcription. Classification into seven phyla is based on similarities in their polymerase sequences.
The seven different phyla can be associated with classification of protein families (PFAM). Reverse-transcribing viruses:
- Artverviricota (PFAM RTase_1 family)
- Duplornaviricota (PFAM RdRp_5 or PFAM RdRp_4 family families)
- Kitrinoviricota (PFAM RdRP_2 or PFAM RdRP_3 families)
- Lenarviricota (PFAM Levi or PFAM mitovirus families)
- Pisuviricota (Pfam RdRp_1 family)
- Negarnaviricota (PFAM mononega RdRp, PFAM Bunya RdRp or PFAM PB1 RdRp families)
Ribozyviria
circular ssRNA viruses:
- Ambiviricota (No PFAM)
