Mpox (Monkeypox) is a double-stranded DNA poxvirus that infects humans and rodents, and occasionally other mammals. It was primarily a zoonotic infection until 2022, when a sustained human outbreak emerged from clade IIb.
The model organism for MonkeyPox is vaccinia virus.
